Description

Ulrich J. Sachs is Consultant in Transfusion Medicine, Laboratory Medicine and Thrombosis & Hemostasis. He studied medicine at Giessen, Germany and Johannesburg, South Africa and received his state license to practice medicine in 1999. Following his residency at Giessen University Hospital, he was a research fellow at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and at the Biomedical Research Institute in Wurzburg, Germany.

Ulrich J. Sachs was Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Marburg University Hospital until the end of 2020, when he was appointed Head of the Department of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the Haemophilia Center at the University Hospital in Giessen, a tertiary referral hospital near Frankfurt, Germany. He is also Associate Professor for Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany. His primary research focus is on aspects of primary haemostasis, especially immune responses against platelets. Ulrich J. Sachs has published more than 120 original papers and a significant number of reviews and book chapters. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Standing Commission on Laboratory Testing of the German Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research (GTH), and is past chairman of the Platelet Immunobiology Working Party of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).
